With many people in prisons that are not heard, there is an organization called "Helping Educate to Advance the Rights of the Deaf" (HEARD) that strives to fight for the rights of Deaf prisoners. While prisoners have it hard, Deaf prisoners are often in the worst place possible at the wrong time.



The #DeafInPrison Campaign, which officially launches on June 27th, aims to start a national conversation about these concerns and to compel corrective and preventive action.



We are asking that you watch "Deaf In Prison," then share your reactions, your story, or any information you have on social media using #DeafInPrison. This link will be available for 48 hours beginning at 12:00 a.m. (EST), Friday, June 27.

This Al Jazeera America exclusive investigation, which originally aired in December 2013, features interviews from HEARD board members Pat Bliss & Talila "TL" Lewis; Deaf prisoners from HEARD's Deaf & Deaf-Blind Prisoner Database, the only national database of Deaf prisoners; Felix Garcia, HEARD's longest-serving Deaf wrongfully convicted prisoner; and family members of Deaf prisoners.

KIBI, GHANA - Illegal mining, also known as ‘galamsey’ has reared its ugly head in the Kyebi School for the Deaf, with the operators (galamseyers) turning the whole compound of the School into a mining area. Source: The Chronicle



Joy News - Several pits dug by illegal mining operators in the compound of Kyebi School for the Deaf in the Eastern Region, is threatening the lives of its 235 students.



The illegal miners started digging these pits some few meters from the classrooms four years ago.



The children have to restrict themselves to just a few metres from their classrooms to play. Anymore and they stand the risk of tripping and drowning in pits dug around the school compound.







Joy News' Beatrice Adu reported that the situation has worsened with the onset of the rains as the large pits are filled to the brim.



One child is said to have died in one of the pits two years ago.



Some residents are afraid to speak publicly about the matter. They have accused some chiefs and persons they describe as ‘big people’ as supporting these illegal miners.



School officials and residents are calling on the Ghana Education Service to urgently come to their aid and build a wall around the school to protect the children or risk more deaths. ... VIDEO [CC] - Deaf homeless man touched by Winnipeggers' generosity.



CBC WINNIPEG - A Deaf, homeless man working hard to find a job in Winnipeg has been moved by the generosity of Winnipeggers.



Kevin Adams, 38, was randomly handing out his resume in a McPhillips Street parking lot last week, hoping someone could help him find a job.



That's when he met Jennifer Martens and her husband. The couple took his resume and posted it on Facebook to spread the word. In just hours, it prompted dozens of comments and thousands of shares.



"I am so proud to be a Winnipegger, knowing that people have openly embraced this man and want to help him get back on his feet. It just warms my heart," Jennifer Martens said.







While the Facebook posting resulted in a few job offers, it turns out that Adams' own efforts paid off. He found a job as a painter and starts Tuesday.

VIDEO: Baseball club Dayton Dragons mascot signs to Deaf child, 7, in heartwarming video.



DAYTON, OHIO (ABC News) It is a video being shared around the web after young, Deaf boy from Germantown made a connection with the Dayton Dragons mascot, Heater, that no one was expecting.



Hunter may be a bit camera shy, but he is not shy about his favorite team. "I met heater and Gem," signed the seven year old. The Samworths were at the game on Saturday.



"We were outside getting ready to go in and there was Heater and Gem so Hunter ran up. And so next thing you know, I'm telling Hunter, say. 'It's nice to meet you,'" said Hunter's Mom, Cheri Samworth.





Unexpectedly, a Green Team member escorting Heater, starting signing back to him. So Dad started recording it and that is when the mascot himself joined in. They exchanged names and talked about the big game.



"You can see on the video, his smile is like, he's gets me, he speaks my language, he understands me, Just a completely different experience for Hunter," Cheri said.



"It just froze, everything froze. It was just, the look on his face was just priceless," said Hunter's Dad, Matt Samworth. The Dragons are away so Heater and members of the Green Team have the day off. Source
