VIDEO: Moviegoers finally see 'The Interview' after Sony's surprise online release.

LOS ANGELES - The news came hours after Sony Pictures Entertainment released ‘The Interview’ on a number of streaming services Wednesday in the U.S and Canada. Sony’s controversially cancelled its screenings of The Interview earlier this month after the company was hacked in an attack the FBI linked to North Korea.

Late Wednesday evening, Vancouver-born Seth Rogen, one of the film’s stars, tweeted that the full-length movie can be viewed on Xmas day: "The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn't give up! The Interview will be shown at theaters willing to play it on Xmas day!."

Sony says ‘The Interview’ will be available to stream for $5.99 on Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft’s Xbox Video and a separate Sony website.

It’s an unprecedented release strategy for a film that’s caused much international intrigue. “It has always been Sony’s intention to have a national platform on which to release this film,” Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton said in a statement Wednesday. He goes on to say that Sony reached out to a number of streaming services last Wednesday to arrange the film’s online release.

“We never stopped pursuing as wide a release as possible for ‘The Interview,’” Lynton said. “We chose the path of digital distribution first so as to reach as many people as possible on opening day, and we continue to seek other partners and platforms to further expand its release.”

Sony Pictures recently reversed its decision to pull the film from U.S. theatres in the face of widespread criticism after it bowed to threats of terrorism. ‘The Interview’ will now be screened in about 200 U.S. theatres, down from the original 3,000-theatre release schedule.

The satirical film stars James Franco and Seth Rogen as journalists who become embroiled in a CIA plot to assassinate a fictional version of Kim Jong Un, dictator of North Korea.

Sony scrapped its plans to release ‘The Interview’ earlier this month after hackers threatened large-scale terrorist attacks against the United States if the film went public.

The same hacker group leaked a slew of sensitive Sony emails obtained in a cyberattack earlier in November. Those leaks included damning emails written by top Sony executives, early digital copies of Sony theatrical films, secret franchise plans for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and an early script for the upcoming James Bond film ‘Spectre.’

Sony reversed its decision on Tuesday after a number of independent theatres said they would screen the film regardless of consequences.

Americans are trumpeting the film’s release as a victory for free speech. Tickets reportedly sold out within hours at several independent theatres slated to screen the movie Christmas Day ... Read more http://www.ctvnews.ca/entertainment/the-interview-released

The Interview

In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show 'Skylark Tonight.' When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to 'take out' Kim Jong-un.

VIDEO: Deaf toddler can’t stop giggling when he hears his mother's voice for the first time.

Toddler Ryan Aprea, two, was born at just 25 weeks and suffers from impaired sight and hearing. He had a cochlear implant fitted into his ear in November which is allowing him to hear sounds for the first time and the youngster couldn't stop laughing every time he heard his mother Jennifer speak.

As his mom Jennifer told Storyful, baby Ryan was born three months prematurely and spent his first seven months of life in hospital. Around the time he was due to come home, he was diagnosed as being profoundly Deaf. An ideal candidate for a cochlear implant, his parents didn’t delay in taking action to increase his chances of being able to communicate with them. His giggle upon hearing his mother’s voice for the first time.

The moment when a young boy with severe hearing difficulties heard his mother's voice for the very first time has been captured in a heartwarming video clip, which shows the youngster dissolving into a fit of giggles every time she speaks.

Entrepreneur Jennifer Colson Aprea, from Huntington Beach, California, posted the clip of her two-year-old son Ryan on her company's Facebook page on Monday, revealing that her son had successfully been fitted with a cochlear implant which is enabling him to hear sounds for the first time in his life.

'We're heading home and it's all good news after the mapping and activation,' the mother-of-two, who founded cloth diaper brand Spray Pal, wrote.

'His brain is definitely receiving sound. The audiologist programmed the device at three different levels and we will gradually increase them throughout the week ... Read more: HERE

There are over 70 million Deaf people in the world. Many of them are either Deaf from birth or became Deaf before learning the spoken language.

This fact has serious implications for the education of Deaf people. To be Deaf means to not hear or comprehend speech and language through the ear.

Communication for a person who cannot hear is visual, not auditory. To deny sign language to Deaf people is tantamount to denying them their basic human rights to communication and education.

Video Description/ English Summary: The video has two points, (1) that the World Federation of the Deaf estimates that 80% of Deaf people do not receive any education at all. (2) How does this make you feel? Isn't this a shocking, disgusting, and infuriating statistic? So what do you plan to do about it?

1 - "80% of Deaf people do not receive any education at all." If you have your Paddy Ladd's "Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood" near you, grab it and flip to page 44. EXCLUSIVE VIDEO [CC] - UPDATE: A man is arrested for murder 55-year-old Deaf woman in Alabama.

MOBILE, Ala. - Mobile police have arrested Myles Xavier Smith for the shooting death of a 55-year-old woman named Dawn Lee.

The crime happened outside her home in the Onderdonk housing community off Shelton Beach Road. News 5 spoke with a woman who called police minutes after the shooting happened.

Carrie Hudson says it was around 3 o'clock Wednesday morning when a neighbor woke her up. "He said Dawn been shot. He says I heard a gun shot and when I came to the door she was laying in the street," Hudson said.

Although Lee's front door is taped with a warning sign that reads "Beware of Gun," Hudson says she doesn't know why Lee was targeted. "She's a nice lady. I don't even know why she was out at three in the morning," she said.

Turn "Closed Captioned" on.

Hudson says Lee's apartment door was locked and her car was parked in its usual spot. She also says many of the residents in the housing community are hearing impaired. "We all look out for each other. Anybody that dies here dies from natural causes never anyone getting shot. This the first we heard of," she said.

Mobile police say Smith is also responsible for a shooting at ITT Tech earlier this year. Smith allegedly got into an argument with another student and shot him in the arm. That case was bound over to the Grand Jury and Smith was actually out on bond when today's shooting happened. He's now charged with murder and possession of a controlled substance. ... There are many ways to consider the usefulness, purpose, intent and effects of dress codes. If school communities are genuinely worried about girls and boys then they need to examine the stereotypes that permeate their own policies around the country of Cuba.

VIDEO: Hockey world mourns a legend Jean Beliveau, one of the greatest players to ever skate for the Montreal Canadiens, has died at the age of 83.

MONTREAL - Joseph Jean Arthur Béliveau was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played parts of 20 seasons with the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens.

Montreal Canadiens legend Jean Béliveau passed away at the age of 83 on Tuesday night, the team announced. He earned the nickname Le Gros Bill.

But both on and off the ice, Béliveau was better known for his skill, sportsmanship and a gentlemanly air that very nearly made him Canada's Governor General in 1994.

At the time, his recurring heart problems and concern for his recently widowed daughter and her small children kept him from accepting the offer.

"Like millions of hockey fans who followed the life and the career of Jean Beliveau, the Canadiens today mourn the passing of a man whose contribution to the development of our sport and our society was unmeasurable," team owner Geoff Molson said in a statement posted on the Canadiens' website.

"Jean Beliveau was a great leader, a gentleman and arguably the greatest ambassador our game has ever known," Molson added.

One of the finest centres who ever played, Béliveau helped lead the Montreal Canadiens to an unprecedented five straight Stanley Cups during the 1950s and 1960s - 10 in all over a nearly 20-year career.

"I always enjoyed the playoffs," Béliveau said. "I enjoyed playing in it. Everybody, not only the players, but management, the fans, maybe the press, everybody is so much more nervous. So I enjoyed every game."

When he retired in 1971, he joined the Canadiens' front office as an executive and goodwill ambassador. As a result, his name appears on the Stanley Cup a record 17 times, a feat unlikely to be duplicated. ... Read more at CBC Sport News
