VIDEO [CC] - Ethan's Song was written for me by Helen Goldwyn. Along with Christina Fry we make up the trio Ladies GoDiva.
After Ethan came to watch an LGD performance one night, Helen was inspired to write this beautiful song. As a fellow singer she was able to understand and capture the raw emotion and curiosity I feel when I think about Ethan's love of music.
For many years after his diagnosis I was unable to sing, I was devastated. Music had been a driving force in my life and my limited knowledge of deafness led me to believe that he would never be able to experience it. Ten years on I find myself standing in the Olympic Stadium watching my son performing the national anthem for THE QUEEN and billions of people across the globe, and rocking out like it is the funkiest piece imaginable.
He has music in his bones. He doesn't need to hear it because he feels it and he loves it. In fact he is accessing it in ways that hearing people can never understand. As he began to love music with the help of his amazing choir, Kaos, so my self-imposed veto on singing was lifted. The journey Ethan has taken me on has taught me so much. Above all I now know for a fact that a disability does not have to be limiting, it just means you experience life in different ways.
Stephen Bentley-Klein is a man of extraordinary talent and experience who has co-produced and arranged Ethan's Song and all of my church music. His passion and professionalism are inspiring. To him I shall forever be grateful. He has a profoundly deaf daughter, Charlotte: a wonderful friend to both Ethan and me.
My thanks to the excellent Mark Smith for his input and collaboration on the style of signing used within Ethan's Song. Although I had been signing and singing for some time he really brought to life for me the musicality and dance-like expression that BSL can have. Mark is himself deaf and is Founder and Artistic Director of the group Deaf Men Dancing. As a choreographer he is currently busy working on the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics.

VIDEO: American Sign Language interpretation of Marilyn Manson's "This is the New S#*t" by Bjorn Storm.
Disclaimer: "The video that follow is not appropriate for children. This interpretation includes signs considered profane or vulgar. This is a song by Marilyn Manson, who is known for making music related to sensitive issues. References to politics, religion, and sex commonly appear in his lyrics.
I ask that you keep an open mind while you watch. He hope you enjoy, and draw your own conclusions. Thank you". Bjorn took a chance on this video speaks for itself. Enjoy!
Manson's music expresses his own opinion and perspectives... However, one need not share such perspectives in order to appreciate his music. I encourage us to continually challenge the meaning of "music for all". I believe access to music shouldn't be limited to "nice" or "safe" topics, but rather, full inclusion of the diversity that occurs within our music.
Music video by Marilyn Manson performing This Is The New Shit. (C) 2003 Nothing/Interscope Records. The Original Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kQMDSw3Aqo

VIDEO: The expert of ASL teachers criticism of music video in American Sign Language.
The expert ASL teaching consultant saying "No Church In The Wild - JAY-Z & Kanye West (Sign Language)" That video is NOT sign language...
I am a hearing ASL teacher, this is my personal opinion of the recent "No Church in the Wild" video posted by 3 hearing ASL students. I apologize for the background noise, I made this video in my classroom. Here is a transcript for the non-ASL community:
Hello, I'm Katie (my sign name). I teach ASL.
I wanted to comment about a video I recently watched , "No Church In The Wild (Sign Language)". That video is NOT sign language. Honestly, I would use that video to show my students what NOT to do when signing music.
Now, I don't want to insult the three boys in the video. I think it's really cool you enjoy and want to sign music. I think it's awesome that you are so motivated, and I encourage you to continue improving your skills. Socialize with the Deaf community, get involved, learn, and gain experience from signing masters. I think it's awesome!
BUT... your current video is lousy. You have "dead faces"... no facial expressions or body moments, no grammatical structure... it's like you just randomly grabbed words out of thin air. Your video isn't clear, either.
Honestly, that video would be very embarrassing for an ASL teacher. And embarrassing for hearing people. I'm hearing. I would never take advantage of the Deaf community, of their language and culture, like you did. I'm sorry, but you took advantage of them, and that's not appropriate.
I encourage you to continue to improve yourselves, and I promise you, 10 years from now, you'll look back at your "No Church for the Wild (Sign Language)" video and be embarrassed of yourselves, too.

VIDEO: 'No Church in the Wild' After a video publication, the articles on the internet was met with a strong reaction from the ASL-speaking community.
Many members of the community have objected to the video on the grounds that it features incomprehensible signs.
Numerous Deaf people of the community finds quite interesting the hot debate about the mistake and nonsense of the music in American Sign Language videos in these days.
Therefore, one of a video from YouTube was something an awkward, maybe even the worst music ASL ever and confused alot of Deaf people who watched Mark Nakhla's "No Church In The Wild - JAY-Z & Kanye West" ASL Music Video.
Mark Nakhla's ASL video is the worst since as similar in the hearies world refered "Rebecca Black's "Friday" Music Video" the worst music video of the century... anyway, back to the ASL issue, a music ASL video that Deaf people as native ASL users barely unable to understand the dudes sign language amateurs are now under fire a horrbile ASL, which is completely different than signs in a signed language, we only see thier gestures.
Signing these dudes claimed that they used ASL to interpret the song of a video which expert ASL teaching consultant saying that it confused alot of Deaf people who watched this. Mark Nakhla's video.
Last a few weeks ago, Sir Paul McCartney just released a music ASL video for "My Valentine" - Featuring Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp in which a video was under fire for major mistake for flubbing a few wrong gestures. Signing tampon instead of appear and enemy instead of valentine. A rep for the British Deaf Association says It would have been nice if genuine Deaf people had been used. However, this video clip is only for American Sign Language, not for British Sign Language.

Many numerous of the Deaf people finds and feels offensive by the hearing people claimed that they used ASL to interpret the song of the videos for the hearing impairment, somewhat, this is a saddening testimony to how ignored and oppressed the Deaf Community.
