The Revenant The greatest movie of all time! tell story about "In the 1820s, a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, sets out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling."
VIDEO: Deaf News: Miss Universe Australia claims she has 'healed' a Deaf African child by putting her fingers in the girl's ear and praying twice in an Easter 'miracle'.
KAMPALA, UG -- Daily Mail: A model has claimed she cured a Deaf African child by praying twice and putting her fingers in the girl's ear in an Easter 'miracle'.
Rebecca Ronald, who has featured in campaigns for Lorna Jane and Billabong, was working with young children in Uganda when she 'healed' the girl using the 'power of faith'.
The Miss Universe Australia finalist took to Instagram to share the story and claimed that after she uttered the words 'you are about to hear for the first time', the young girl was instantly cured.
The model, who is from Palm Beach, on the Gold Coast, posted a picture of her and a group of African children - one of whom she singled out as the girl she healed.
'As Riley & I were preaching, she stood out to me & I had such a compassion for her,' she wrote.
'Afterwards while we were praying for each individual, I asked her to come aside & as I went to speak, her friend intervened to say that she was Deaf.
'I had just finished preaching on what God had been teaching me about; the power of Faith.. and knowing my God can do all things, I said to her, 'you are about to hear for the first time'.
'I prayed once - nothing happened, then I felt Holy Spirit say, put your fingers in her ear and command them to open.
'Sounds easy, but in the moment, it can be the hardest thing because is requires the very thing I taught on, Faith with power which opposes human reasoning - so I did and when I finished praying, her face lit up and overjoyed she said 'I can HEAR for the first time!!!!''
She said that this was an example of the 'Heavenly Father's' love in action.
'The Lord told me to expect miracles this trip & miracles is what we are seeing,' she said.
'While westerners think they are the blessed ones not living in poverty, I disagree because these easterners get it, and I believe that is why I have never witnessed the power of God like I have here.'

Deaf News: Lydia Callis, longtime advocate of Deaf Rights, won admirers as Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s sign-language.
NEW YORK CITY -- New York Times: Lydia Callis wanted to get her mother a gym membership for Christmas last year. When she called to arrange a consultation, she mentioned that her mom (who lives in Arizona) is Deaf and would need a sign-language interpreter for the session. The health club said it would not provide a signer. Ms. Callis who became an Internet sensation during Hurricane Sandy as Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s exuberant sign-language interpreter told the club that it was actually required by law to do so. Still it refused, and Ms. Callis, who was calling from Manhattan, gave up.
Last year was the 25th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, and yet this kind of scenario plays out regularly for people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. While the broader culture has become accustomed to certain changes the law has engendered, particularly wheelchair access, the rights of the Deaf have frequently been misunderstood or simply disregarded.
Recently, however, a Deaf rights movement has begun to gain ground, particularly in New York.
One sign of this momentum has been a flurry of lawsuits. Last year, the city’s Department of Homeless Services settled a case that charged its shelters with failing to provide American Sign Language interpreters for Deaf residents, and a suit filed last summer in Westchester County claimed that two hospitals refused a Deaf couple’s requests for interpreters after the husband had a heart attack.
Another case involved Diana Williams, a Deaf woman from Staten Island who was arrested in 2011 and was denied a sign-language interpreter, as the federal law dictates. In October, the Police Department settled her lawsuit for $750,000. Her lawyers, from the Eisenberg & Baum Law Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, said it was one of the biggest payouts of its kind.
“What’s disturbing about all these lawsuits is that the A.D.A. has been in effect for several decades,” Eric Baum, one of the firm’s founders, recently said. Mr. Baum said that his firm had litigated about 100 Deaf discrimination cases, roughly half in the New York metropolitan area, many dealing with a failure to provide interpreters. He was sitting in the Union Square office alongside the Law Center’s co-directors: Andrew Rozynski, a lawyer and fluent A.S.L. signer whose parents are deaf, and Sheryl Eisenberg-Michalowski, a Deaf rights liaison who was born Deaf...Read More.

Deaf News: Deaf teen leaves rural community for fresh start in Regina school due to sign language boost socialization in the capital of Saskatchewan.
CBC REGINA, SK -- For those in remote and rural Sask., a hearing impairment can present major challenges. Seventeen-year-old Shayla Tanner, who is Deaf, has faced challenges academically and socially in her home community but has seen tremendous growth in the past three years.
She recalls that with few in her community of Cowessess First Nation knowing sign language, she fell behind in school and socializing. 'I just felt horrible'
"With my work I really felt like I just wanted to give up with it," she said through her interpreter as she signed. "I couldn't communicate with my friends and I felt like I was just having a breakdown.
"With reading, when I used my voice while at my old school there were four kids and they said they couldn't understand me, and I just felt horrible about that."
Tanner says she would try to read lips and write notes to speak to others in her community.
"They would talk slow to me, but I still didn't understand. They would talk and I just didn't really get it."
Making friends was more difficult than it is now.
New beginning at Regina high school. It was her special education teacher who suggested she go to school at Thom Collegiate in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Thom teacher Joanne Weber, who is Deaf herself, runs a class that has been highly praised for the way it focuses on visual learning and sign language.
Art could be the next big breakthrough in Deaf education.
And so, three years ago, Tanner left Cowessess and moved in with her brother in Regina so that she could join the program.
It's was a challenge, she says. She learned a more in-depth version of American Sign Language and gained a better grasp of English grammar... Read More.

Deaf News: Deaf lesbian couple who were attacked with a bat: 'We're sacred to walk the streets' in California.
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA. -- San Diego Gay & Lesbian News: The Deaf lesbian couple who were beaten with a baseball bat in Desert Hot Springs on March 22, have come forward to SDGLN to voice concerns about their safety and to thank the community for their support.
Deanna (Dee), 37, and Cathren (Cat), 30, are recovering from injuries they received on Tuesday when suspect Shaunda Lane allegedly became upset because she didn’t understand the women’s sign language.
Dee and Cat used hand signing to ask Lane to leave their property, but were attacked by Lane with a baseball bat according to a police report.
Lane is currently behind bars facing attempted murder charges. Local police say they are not investigating the case as a hate crime.
Since the attack the women have been trying to get their lives back in order and the community has rallied together to help them. A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help the couple recover financially.
“I really would like to thank the supporters who are my family and Deaf friends, even Deaf teachers, even hearing friends, also hearing families…who already knew who we are, for rest of our lives,” said Dee in the letter to SDGLN.
Both Dee and Cat suffered severe injuries; Dee a broken hand and concussion.
A Good Samaritan who only wishes to be identified as Team Mom has stepped in to help the couple as they recover from shock.
Dee is grateful to Team Mom and her continued support, “Team Mom (has) been checking on us almost every day to see if we (are) doing ok, and bring everything that we need. We love her so much. We thank…GOD every day for her,” wrote Cat.
After the attack, the couple’s apartment was broken into and their cellphones and other items were stolen or vandalized. Dee expressed some of the things that the donations will go toward. She says they are very scared of living in Desert Hot Springs now and they need money to move.
Additionally they need help with, “medical bills which my Medi-Care isn't good; have to transfer from Indiana to…California. Transportations; with no car which during night time is not safe to walk and things were missing at home when it was robbed.”
Team Mom opened up her apartment to the couple after their attack and Dee is very grateful for her kindness.
“Team Mom has made sure that we have food, clothes money etc... we love that there are people like her in the world,” she writes. “Team Mom lives in a small apartment and still took us in for our safety. She does so much to have so little. Thanks Team Mom for accepting us for who we are. I'm honored to have my Team Mom. Many thanks.”
Team Mom is asking for help within the Deaf and LGBT communities to aid these women in getting their lives back in order.
“My city has two Deaf females that were beaten within inches of their life with a baseball bat and robbed,” Team Mom writes to SDGLN. “They don't have anything now! Can you help make them feel beautiful again? Contact the community and a few others you may know. To help support the deaf victims to get back on their feet.”
Dee says they are still anxious about their assailant, and worry about her getting released from jail.
"We are still not feeling safe completely because we heard Shaunda (Lane) is trying to act like she is not guilty for attempted murder," she writes. "Need (to) talk to detective this Monday to make sure she stays in prison with no bail."

We want this day to make the most powerful impact possible on our nation, that would last long, and influence our legislators to pass laws and amendments that would benefit us on the whole as a society.
The impact we are seeking to make would not only be on legislators but would alter the perceptions of other entities such as law enforcement at all levels, services, and private sectors in our society towards Deaf people in a positive way, to effect changes that are necessary in order for us to lead productive lives, that will provide opportunities for us we seek, that will put us on the same level as other hearing citizens. National Rally will be on May 4, 2016.

VIDEO [CC] - Deaf Dancer: Oh Wonder, Lose It - The Shaheem’s Story.
Feeling the power of music is just as important as hearing it. What moved you most about Shaheem’s story? Shaheem Sanchez lost his hearing at the age of four. He taught himself to dance by feeling the vibrations of the music. Vibrations from noise in the outside world confuse his perception of the music. This is his process to show that Deaf people can do anything, because anything is possible.
"Deaf Dancer": Behind The Scenes With Shaheem Sanchez.
Who is Shaheem? Following in his father’s footsteps, Shaheem Sanchez, aka DeafDancerShaheem, started dancing at age 11, despite losing his hearing at age four. Though his father passed before he was born, his family told him stories about his father’s dance skills and he thought, why not give dance a shot? Dance has become a very important part of his life.
He loves to feel the music, go with the flow, and feel the peace that comes from dance. By feeling the beat and reading the body language of his collaborators, Shaheem is able to connect to the music and express himself. It is important to him to show that Deaf people can do anything, because anything is possible. Fun Fact: Shaheem passed down his love of dance to his little brother Kida The Great.

Deaf News - Exclusive: 'Dancing with the Stars' contestant Nyle DiMarco goes to hospital, gets stitches after rehearsal mishap.
LOS ANGELES -- Dancing With the Stars season 22 contestant Nyle DiMarco had to get stitches above his eye after a he was hit in the face during a rehearsal.
Video shows Nyle and his partner Peta Murgatroyd beginning to dance when she whirled around and accidentally plopped him in the face with her elbow.
The Deaf model takes the hit in stride, smiling while touching his eye.
Things had been going so much better for Peta, who marveled at the Deaf model when he took off his shirt to rehearse with her.
"Yes!" the dance pro said about him disrobing. "I'm totally fine with this."
Moments later, things were a bit bloodier.
"Oh, my God," Maksim Chmerkovskiy's fiance said as her dance partner ran to look at the wound in the mirror. "Are you okay? I'm so sorry. I have never hit anyone that badly in my whole life."
Nyle said, "I think I might need stitches."
Later, cameras showed Nyle outside of the hospital, with his eyebrow stitched together.
Via American Sign Language and through an interpreter, Nyle said, "So I just left the hospital. I had to get four stitches on my left eyebrow. I definitely realized today that dancing is definitely a full-contact sport and I like it!"
Hopefully the dance duo will have better luck on the dance floor. Peta knows a thing or two about dominating the dance floor, as she took home the Mirrorball Trophy with Donald Driver in season 14.
Nyle, too, knows about winning, as he won "America's Next Top Model" in it's 22nd cycle.
"It truly did take a toll on me mentally," he told Us Weekly after winning. "I even cringe when I watch myself on ANTM being all alone and sometimes brainwashed from 'only talking to myself.'"
He did find a silver lining in being Deaf during his ANTM stint.
"The only positive thing out of it is that I wasn't able to hear all the drama!" he said. "I'm relieved. Also, with the lack of communication, It has helped me to stay focused and think about how I can improve myself as a model."
"Dancing With the Stars" returns on ABC on March 21, at 8 p.m. ET.

VIDEO [CC] - Deaf Taiwanese dancer Lin Ching Lan proves naysayers wrong - SK-II #changedestiny stories.
TAIPEI -- Lin Ching Lan is founder of Taiwan’s first troupe for Deaf dancers. Her story is beautiful. She was born with a hearing impairment, but she has not let that control her life. Her goal was to be a dancer…she just wanted to dance!
Schools and Teachers told her she would never dance because she couldn’t hear the music but…she can feel the music. We can use her as an example for when people tell us we can't do something…you can prove them wrong, if you work at it!
In the 1970s, SK2 scientists began a fervent quest to uncover a skincare ingredient that would make beautiful skin a reality for every woman.
Across land and sea, they sought for the answer. Despite researching a myriad of possibilities, the secret they were looking for long eluded them.
It was only by happenstance that the scientists eventually found themselves in a simple sake brewery where they chanced upon the soft and youthful hands of aged sake brewers. The breath-taking sight was the inspiration of the skincare miracle they would eventually uncover – a destiny of beauty was finally within reach. Source

VIDEO: Deaf News - 'DWTS' Peta Murgatroyd talks overcoming challenges with partner Nyle DiMarco: 'I've never trained with a Deaf person before'
LOS ANGELES -- Entertainment Tonight spoke with both the dancing pro and her Dancing with the Stars partner at the 2016 Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday, where Peta Murgatroyd admitted that working with Nyle DiMarco is a very different experience for her.
"I've never trained with a Deaf person before, so it's a whole new ball game for me," she said. "Being a teacher, I have to really find out different teaching methods to be able to overcome this, and so far we're going really well."
One person who doesn't seem nervous at all is the America's Next Top Model winner. In fact, DiMarco is excited about how quickly he's learning to dance.
"Actually, my dancing feet are pretty good," he told ET via his interpreter on the orange carpet. "I'm pretty surprised and pretty impressed, because I've never danced before. I also have a great teacher!"
"It's not exactly what I expected," the 26-year-old model added. "I thought that I would struggle a lot and it would be frustrating, but actually, it's going really well."
The dancing duo revealed that they will have to cha cha "straight out of the gate," and the ballroom pro says their take on it is "fast, sexy, fun, high energy!"
ET also caught up with the pair on Wednesday at Planet Hollywood in New York City, where DiMarco revealed Murgatroyd has already helped him boost his confidence on the dance floor.
"The first day that we met, right before she came in, of course I've never danced ever. So that's what I was nervous about," he shared. "I didn't want to look bad on the first day of rehearsals. Now I'm not nervous at all. All thanks to her."
Murgatroyd echoed his statements, praising DiMarco for his hard work and dedication in rehearsals.
"He's doing amazingly well. Part [of that] is just his amazing work ethic," she gushed. "He literally doesn't sit down. Usually people will sit down every five minutes, but he works constantly throughout the four hours that we have."
"He's just so visually aware," she added. "Probably doubly as visually aware as anyone else because he doesn't have hearing. He picks up the steps very quickly, and its very surprising. At first I was really nervous, too. I didn't know how it was going to go. I wanted to be clear, I wanted to make sure that I could be the best teacher possible."
If the pair does win season 22, it will be the second time Murgatroyd has won DWTS. She and NFL star Donald Driver took home the mirror ball trophy during season 14.
DiMarco is joined in the competition by an all-star cast that includes Jodie Sweetin, Mischa Barton, Ginger Zee and Super Bowl 50 MVP, Von Miller.
Miller is paired with pro Witney Carson, who ET also caught up with at the KCAs. The newylwed dished on how the NFL pro was shaping up in the ballroom.
"He's picking up things so quick. He's great on choreography. He's an amazing student," she gushed. "I love that because I get to boss a big football player around... Read More.

VIDEO [CC] - Deaf News: Mirchi and Mime, Mumbai's first Deaf eatery the fine dining restaurant in India.
MUMBAI -- Mirchi & Mime is the city’s first restaurant with a fully Deaf-Mute staff serving the food. Launched just a week ago, this restaurant plans to serve society by creating employment opportunities for the differently abled and at the same time, keeping guests satiated with an interesting regional Indian menu. We checked out the place and were smitten by the bright smiles of the staff and their warm hospitality.
Ambience - The restaurant is tastefully designed in lighter shared paired with wooden furniture making the space look huge. The 2000 sq ft property can host about 80 guests at a time. The walls are decorated with antique kitchenware, cake stands with dome on top have cookbooks and plants in it. On the other side, you’ll find handwritten recipes from various cookbooks dating from the modern right up to pre-independence time... Read More.

Read More.

Deaf News: ‘Deaf people can achieve anything’ A hero student given bravery award after saving dozen pupils from fire.
PRETORIA, SA -- Independent Online: The National Disability Heroes Award 2015 was presented to Thabang Moruti on Friday in recognition of his heroic act in risking his life to go into a burning school and save the lives of 13 Deaf girls.
Moruti, who is in Grade 12 at the North West Secondary School for the Deaf in Leeudoringstad, told African News Agency that, for him, his award symbolised that “Deaf people can achieve anything”.
He recounted in South African Sign Language (SASL) how he woke up after midnight, around 1am in the morning on August 24, 2015, and realised the girls hostel was on fire.
Moruti was a delegate at the National Disability Rights Summit this week and shared his experience of what happened that night.
He said he just woke up without the help of warning lights, which should be in place at a school for the Deaf in case of an emergency, and realised that the building had caught alight.
“I ran outside and climbed up a tree outside the building to the second floor into the building and brought each girl outside, down the tree.”
Thinking back, the shy 21-year-old hero said the experience had “sparked an interest in firefighting”.
He said he wanted to become a firefighter and play a role in educating people with disabilities in communities, especially Deaf people, about the importance of fire safety.
Moruti said that during the summit he had learnt the importance of equal rights for people with disabilities.
“Deaf and Hearing people should be equal,” he said. The rights of people with disabilities should not lag behind the rights of able-bodied people.

Deaf News: Son James was mercilessly picked on in the playground because he has a hearing impairment at mainstreaming school.
DUNDEE, UK -- The Sunday Post: Chris said teachers did little to tackle the problem when James was subjected to name-calling by other pupils.
Eventually, Chris and wife Samantha were forced to take the step of removing him from the school due to the “lack of understanding from teachers”.
“People are ignorant – that’s not going to change,” said the former striker, who has tried to teach his son how to deal with the name-calling.
He said: “It is wrong for children to tease and bully but it happens through school and as much as we’d like it to, it will probably never be eradicated.
“I prepare James for this. What I couldn’t understand was the lack of understanding from his teachers at his previous school.
“They did not know how to treat him because of his hearing aids.”
Following abuse at the hands of other children, Chris was forced to carefully explain to James that he was happy with him just the way he his.
“You find out who your friends are,” is the difficult advice he gave him.“Kids have to work things out for themselves,” he added.
Since placing James in another school, he has flourished and is now an accomplished hockey player, much to his dad’s delight.
Chris said: “Going to his new school totally transformed him as a person.
“He was depressed and lacked self-belief and it was because of the common sense and logical understanding of the teachers at his new school that he began to build his confidence.”
The now 14-year-old’s early life was beset by problems.
James was born prematurely at 28 weeks in September
2001 at The Queen Mother’s Hospital in Glasgow, weighing just 3lb.
He was so tiny, Chris could hold him in the palm of his hand.
After weeks of specialist care, he was eventually allowed to go home.
However, Samantha rushed James to the former Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow 10 days later when he fell seriously ill with a respiratory virus.
He was choking and having terrifying episodes where he would stop breathing.
She took him to hospital but while in the waiting room he stopped breathing again.
He was rushed to a side room where doctors resuscitated him. Medics said he could have died if he hadn’t got there when he did.
Chris, 43, said: “My wife had this feeling and she turned round and James was going blue.
“They rushed him into the hospital and he had gone. They got him back.
“He was in a long time. They resuscitated him. He was a tiny baby. It was the most worrying thing that has ever happened.
“Had we lived any further away we might not have got there in time. Another minute and he might not have been here. We were told that.”
Doctors said James was suffering from RSV – a common virus with cold-like symptoms.
Healthy children tend to shrug it off, but it can be life-threatening for premature babies.
The star was in Spain at the time preparing for a crucial UEFA Cup tie with Valencia when Samantha called to say James was fighting for his life.
He immediately tried to get a flight home, but couldn’t.
In the end he chose not to go to the match but instead stayed at the hotel where Samantha could call to give him updates.
He flew home early next day and went to the intensive care ward where he and Samantha kept a bedside vigil.
The footballer said it was the most worrying time of his life.
“James was on life support. It was touch-and-go,” he revealed.
“You hope, you sit and pray and think about things.
