Listen Up, Kristin (Dirty Signs With Kristin) @thfemale by Victoria.

thfemaleHi, my name is Victoria, I am a culturally Deaf person and use ASL as my primary language of communication. About your dirty signs videos... to begin with, I feel pretty sad about it all.

Don't get me wrong, I have the best sense of humour ever. My Deaf friends and I love getting creative with our signs; but trust me, the shit we come up with trumps yours infinity times. Kristin, what you're doing is IGNORANT. It doesn't help Deaf people at all. We get enough shit already when it comes to paternalism, audism, cultural oppression, phonocentrism, and general ignorance.

You responded to one person's comment on your "bitch, please" video: "Hi there! I noticed you've been commenting on quite a few of my videos that my ASL is wrong. As per the video description, I don't claim to be a licensed interpreter and I'm definitely still learning, but I'm always welcome to corrections. It seems like you're more interested in making general comments that I'm wrong and I shouldn't be making these videos, instead of actually helping me fix my signs, so I'm going to block you now. Sorry for the offense, and I wish you all the best!"

How patronizing, you need to check your hearing privilege. Acknowledging your incredible shortcomings does not make what you're doing at all right. You don't seem to be listening to Deaf people at all, so why would anyone of us want to correct your signs? you use our language the language of an oppressed minority as a way of perpetuating racism, sexism and audism. I am a Deaf woman, do you really think I will want to carry on a conversation with a hearing person who thinks it's funny to learn signs like: "fucking you is like throwing a hotdog down a hallway" or even more galling "less talk, more anal."? Disgusting!

What the hell? even today, we are STILL fighting for the right to use our language. ANY public use of sign language is fraught with deeply political messages. When I use American Sign Language in public, amongst hearing people, it is an act of disobedience and resistance against "The Man". You're not doing shit to help Deaf people in this regard. You're only making a joke of ASL, and reducing it to signs that befit the paternalistic view of Deaf people as objects to be manipulated.

As my friend Elena commented on the dailydot article about your videos, "but language is never removed from cultural politics, especially if you go on to commodify it. Quite frankly, you're doing it wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. you're teetering the line of contributing to the cultural-linguistic appropriation of ASL and consequently U.S. Deaf culture as a whole."

There is a difference between "cultural appropriation" and "cultural exchange." What you are doing is not cultural exchange. If it were, you'd have amongst other things captioned your videos to make them accessible to Deaf people. Also, your disclaimer says, "I am not trying to disrespect anyone in the process of making these videos, I'm simply trying to have fun with my friends and learn ASL." If it was just with your friends, why put it all on the internet if not as an attention-seeking manoevre? you are simply exploiting Deaf people and Deaf culture for internet popularity. And now that St. Martin's is intending to publish your smutty signs book, you are also exploiting us for financial gain. that's awful!

The best way to learn ASL, Kristin, is to participate in the Deaf community and make Deaf friends. Stop posting unfunny and offensive shit on the internet and have real conversations with Deaf people. ASL is so much more than a badly executed "twat waffle" and the internet needs to know that, too.

Just stop. Don't be just another hearing person denying Deaf people their voice.

Dirty signs with Kristin says:

Disclaimer: I am NOT an interpreter! I understand that the art of ASL is very complex, and what I do is probably much closer to "Signed English" as opposed to actual ASL. The phrases I sign in these videos are things I tried to mash together from individual words I learned on the internet and from friends, and are probably not very close to the actual ASL phrases. If you would like to start learning ASL, I highly recommend it. I'm trying myself and it's a beautiful language, and there are many good resources out there (myself not included). With that said, I am not trying to disrespect anyone in the process of making these videos, I'm simply trying to have fun with my friends and learn ASL. If you see me signing something incorrectly, PLEASE let me know, and I will try to make a new video. Thanks!

Actually, Kristin is insulting and offensive ASL users for misleading signed on the tube which she is NOT a licensed and certified interpreter or ASL courses as well.

Students with hearing loss attending general education classrooms have been reported to experience difficulties in social skills and relationships. This 5-year longitudinal study examined the social skills and problem behaviors of students who were Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and who attended general education classrooms. Data were obtained from classroom teachers and students themselves.

The mean Social Skills and Problem Behavior scores (Social Skills Rating Scales; Gresham & Elliott, 1990) were within the average range and normally distributed each year. The average change over 5 years in social skills and problem behavior was not significant.

The most consistent predictors of social outcomes were the students" classroom communication participation and participation in extracurricular activities. Implications for placement, intervention, and further research are discussed. Sources: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/article/Exceptional-Children/260582218.html

Tell the FMCSA To Let Qualified Deaf Truck Drivers Work Currently, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is accepting comments from the community on whether it should give exceptions from hearing requirements to forty-five (45) Deaf people so that they may obtain their Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to drive commercial trucks in the USA.

We need your help in supporting these truck drivers to obtain their licenses and also to tell the FMCSA that they should allow all qualified Deaf drivers to drive any vehicle. There is no valid reason to prevent Deaf people from driving commercially because there is no proof of any safety issue. In 2008, FMCSA did several studies and found no evidence that hearing affects people's driving skills.

At this time, they are only considering 45 people for the exemption from the Federal hearing requirement. We want these people to get that exemption. But while we show support for the 45, let's also tell FMCSA that we support ALL qualified Deaf people and those with hearing loss to receive their CDL!... Read more: http://deafprogressivism.blogspot.com/2012/06/keep-on-truckin-for-deaf.html

How can you help? Leave a comment online at the Government's Regulations website by following the steps below:

1. Visit http://www.regulations.gov/

2. Put "FMCSA-2012-0154-0001" in the search for box.Look for Qualifications of Drivers; Exemption Applications: National Association of the Deaf.

3. On the right side under Actions click on "Comment Now!"

4. The next window will ask you to fill in your name, address and contact information.

5. And on the last part, you will need to decide if you would like to post in the comment area or create your own word document to upload in there. If you prefer to work on your comments offline first, do so in MS Word, save it then upload it.

When writing your comments, please be sure that you include the following things in your letter: FMCSA should grant the requests for exemptions for all 45 deaf truckers

- Believe that deaf truckers should be allowed to drive any vehicle, including vehicles both with and without air brakes.

- That modern trucks today are loud inside the cab and hearing drivers cannot hear much inside the cab. For this reason, many technologies were developed to help hearing drivers that benefit deaf drivers as well. There are no legitimate safety issues connected to hearing and truck driving.

Or copy and paste the comments below to post:

I support the exemption for all 45 deaf truckers to obtain their CDL Class A Licenses. The evidence has shown that not being able to hear does not effect one's driving skills and that truck drivers, both hearing and deaf, equally use modern technology to deal with the inability to hear inside a truck's cabin.

For this reason, I think FMCSA should allow ALL qualified deaf people to drive any kind of vehicle; that includes trucks both with and without air brakes. A deaf person driving is no more of a safety concern than a hearing person. Again, I support this awarding of exemptions for these 45 people from the Federal hearing standard, but I also want the Federal hearing physical standards removed for ALL drivers because driving trucks is about skills not hearing.

There are other ways to submit your comments (mail, fax, etc). Please visit the below PDF document for more information: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-05-25/pdf/2012-12636.pdf

That means the deadline is June 25th. Please post your comments ASAP!

Thank you for your support to help deaf truckers because it's all about skills, not hearing.

VIDEO [CC] - "Hears" for the first time video is fake ? Report.

If you have access to the internet, or live within shouting distance of someone who does, then few past weeks ago, you probably watched the wildly popular the videos of "Hears For The First Time" in these days, Deaf people who, after receiving cochlear/hearing implantations, was able to hear for the first time.

Some people humbly suggest that the debate over real or fake is completely meaningless anyway, since the purpose is just to get people talking about the company or the product in fact, the people who are crying "fake," while trying to damage the video's reputation, are actually only helping the brand succeed in generating buzz. It's a textbook example of the "the "Streisand Effect."

"Entertainment and sharing are the only goals with online video ads" Viewers get so caught up in the debate over real or fake, but you know who doesn't? The brand. Do you think the brand cares whether you came to the video with a bias thinking it was fake? Because they don't. What they care about is that you A) watched it, and B) forwarded it to someone. You could have forwarded it because you believed it was a real. Or you could have sent it to friends because you're convinced it's an obvious fake and you want their support. Either way... the video is shared like crazy.

It's also incredibly difficult to "prove" these things one way or another, which will allow the conspiracy theory to live on almost indefinitely. So if they're smart, The community isn't getting caught up in trying to prove their video is real, but are merely basking in the glow of the tech journalism's spotlight. Meanwhile, international media news are the propaganda of HUGE lies!!!, but the audience will no longer believe it's real.

One frequently cited piece of evidence supporting the hoax claim is that they speaks pretty clearly which, according to Yes, they "hear" now, but they're still not "Hearing"! with captioned, It is impossible for someone who is actually Deaf. This evaluation is usually backed up with an explanation like, "My nephew went to summer camp with a guy who said his neighbor's aunt was completely Deaf, and she couldn't talk that well, so this must be a fake."

However, the first sentence of that article proves the point. They were not DEAF. They had severe "Hearing Loss." It is amazing what they did but it should not be title "DEAF" they "HEARS" for the first time. They has been heard themselves before, just not clearly. Thier voice sounded too "Hearing-Like" and could be heard clearly raising questions if her hearing loss is really severe, maybe there's a line drawn between using the term 'Deaf', because there are 'Legally Blind' people that can still see. Maybe there is 'Legally Deaf'.

These people clearly do not understand that proper speech requires hearing in order for the speaker to properly modulate their voice. For the same reason that people listening to loud music on headphones may either shout or speak too quietly, Deaf people typically have a difficult time vocalizing normally. One of the reasons that they are able to vocalize in the manner that they do is because their brain is using the vibration caused by their vocal chords to help modulate. Spoken word recognition in toddlers who use cochlear implants: http://jslhr.asha.org/cgi/content/abstract/52/6/1390

Again, Entertainment and sharing are the only goals with online video ads have been quite a few detractors on the internet stating that seems to indicate these videos may be a fake/hoax..., because they are able to speak almost immediately after it is turned on. The video takes place in a doctor's office and shows the adult/children's reaction at the precise moment a lab technician turns on the implant device. Some people viewed the video at least a half-dozen times, and they can unequivocally state that it is the most inspiring the video you will ever see that consists almost entirely of thier crying or exciting (Presumably, they are crying because of the emotion of the moment, and not because the technician decided that thier first audible sound should be a recording, perhaps. The stories run by the media is grossly distorted or simply fake (to sell the product?) it is possbile to convince people to buy the product by the cochlear implant companies from the media network.

The media network is interesting the video which on purpose is only for the money as the dirty business? as seen on Cochlear Business Is Dirty Business! with captioned. The video is only for the money as the dirty business that what the media seeking partnership agreement contract to share profit from the cochlear implant companies? The whole thing was acted out in order to help promote the implantable hearing aid. You can see the fact checks and weblinks as following: An organic cure for deafness: http://www.deafhoodfoundation.org/  Deaf Bilingual Coaltion: http://www.dbcusa.org/

VIDEO: About National Association of the Deaf and Dennis Daugaard in American Sign Language.

The purpose of this vlog is to explain everything regarding Deaf people's response on National Association of the Deaf (NAD) for making a bad pick by inviting the Governor of South Dakota. This vlog also will include the transcript so that hearing people & Deaf people who does not know ASL will be able to understand why many Deaf people are protesting about the bad pick which NAD, so far, hadn't addressed this issue.

Here is the transcript of the 25-minute long vlog: The National Association of the Deaf was founded in 1880 in response to the Milan Conference of 1880. Why? The International Congress on Education of the Deaf was held in Italy. All delegates except for one at ICED were hearing. They voted to support the oral education and banned the use of sign language for Deaf children at any deaf schools. The result is that many Deaf teachers lost their jobs at many Deaf schools across this country as it also messed up Deaf Education. This was the Dark Ages for Deaf people. NAD was established to protect the Deaf people's voice, civil rights & American Sign Language. Wonder why the NAD is not strong like the National Association for Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)? NAACP was able to have the access to media and make a difference in many people's lives, why can't the NAD have that as well? That part is a long story that will explain why NAD is like that but first, I want to focus on history of NAD.

16 years after NAD was established (1896), there was first woman to serve on NAD Board. Is it awesome? Does it means that NAD is progressive than the rest of the United States since women were allowed to vote in 1920? No, it is not true. That position has no-voting power. Their duties are focused only on social issues, events, morals, childbearing, child care - these are women's duties. They cannot get involved on Education, Civli Rights & Law with the rest of male-dominated NAD Board. When the 19th Amendment was ratified into the United States Constitution in 1920 to grant all women the right to vote, NAD still did not permit its Deaf women to vote until 1964!

44 YEARS!! Why? Maybe the NAD resisted this change because they were wary of hearing people due to the devastating effects of Milan Conference. Then a year later in 1965, African-Americans (both men & women) were allowed to join the membership of NAD. As for GLBT individuals, NAD finally included them not a long time ago roughly about 10-15 years ago. Really, NAD was aware that there were many Deaf GLBT individuals but they chose not to recognize the GLBT individuals for decades. Now the GLBT people will have its first-ever Luncheon at 2012 NAD Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. NAD hosts biennial national conferences held in different cities across the country. For many years, the NAD Board as well as its Region I, II, III, IV Board tend to be populated by Deaf people with college degrees. For many years, NAD's growth was hindered due to low contributions, most likely because many Deaf people lost their jobs after the infamous Milan Conference of 1880. They slowly raised the funds for decades and finally has a permanent home in Silver Spring, Maryland. They also established the Youth Leadership Camp as well. They added little by little to strengthen the organization. As of now, NAD will have its conference in Louisville. This conference's theme is ...

Every two years, NAD tends to select a theme that will reflect on its conference. This year, in Louisville has this theme, "Nothing About Us, Without Us". This conference is expected to be the largest one in history because NAD is partnering with Kentucky Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (KCDHH)'s famous & popular event called DeaFestival. That DeaFestival is extremely popular with Deaf people who does not have college background, averaging several thousands of spectators from many states. This is an opportunity for everyone to capitalize on touching important issues at the conference.

NOTE: If you want to read the complete transcript, contact me via inbox. I'll send you the rest as YouTube does not permit me to give you a complete transcript of my vlog: ridor9th
